Analyst Circana: PS5 broke the historical record of PS2
The video game market is growing every year, but the industry cannot break some records for decades. However, analyst Matt Piscatella assures that the PlayStation 5 has finally been able to surpass the PlayStation 2.
Circana financial analyst Matt Piscatella has published a new report on sales in the gaming industry: a record has been recorded since October 2021. Gaming hardware spending rose 68% year-over-year to $495 million, the most since 2009, which saw $534 million in gaming spending.
Equally interesting, Piscatella assures that this growth is due to the increase in sales of the PlayStation 5 – the console became the best-selling hardware platform both in February 2023 and since the beginning of 2023. In response to a question from a reader, Piscatella clarified that the PlayStation managed to update the historical record of the PlayStation 2, but did not provide any exact comparative figures. It remains to believe in the word.
