Automaker Ford has unveiled an all-electric Explorer crossover based on Volkswagen’s modular MEB platform. At the same time, the body of the novelty is completely original, and the main feature of the interior is the portrait screen of the Sync media system with a diagonal of 14.6 inches, which can change the angle of inclination.

Explorer turned out to be more compact than ID.4. Its length is 4.45 m, height is 1.6 m, width is 1.87 m, and the trunk volume is only 450 liters compared to 543 liters for Volkswagen. The choice will be available wheels with a diameter of 19, 20 and 21 inches. The maximum weight of a towed trailer is from 1.2 to 1.4 tons.

The interior of the Explorer is notable for the 14.6-inch portrait screen of the multimedia system based on the Sync 4 platform. All the main functions, including climate control, are displayed on it. In this case, the display angle can be changed in the range of 30°. The role of the visor for the 5.3-inch instrument panel display is taken over by a flat audio speaker. The keys on the steering wheel are touch sensitive. Hidden under the armrest is a 17-liter niche that can hold a 15-inch laptop or several 1.5-liter bottles.

Ford has announced three trim levels. The base has a rear-wheel drive with an electric motor with a capacity of 170 hp. With. and a traction battery with an effective capacity of 52 kWh, the second version – with one electric motor with a capacity of 286 hp. With. and a 77 kWh battery. And the third, most powerful one is a twin-engine all-wheel drive Explorer (340 hp) with the same battery. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the older Explorer will also be compared with the ID.4 GTX , which has 482 kilometers on a single charge in the WLTP cycle.

The new model will hit the assembly line this summer, and the Explorer will be slightly cheaper than the ID.4 – its initial price will be less than 45,000 euros.
