Rumor: the new iPhone 15 will rework the “island”

According to authoritative analyst and insider Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is going not only to use Dynamic Island in all iPhone 15 series models, but also to rework this hardware and software element in comparison with what is in the current iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Promax.

The source claims that the company intends to integrate a new proximity sensor into Dynamic Island. On the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, it sits below the screen just below the notch. It is not known whether this will somehow affect the functionality of the “island”, but Ming-Chi Kuo assures that this should not affect the size. There is an assumption that this is done in order to reduce the cost of production of new smartphones.

It is claimed that the new proximity sensor will operate in the wavelength range of 940 mm, while in current models this value is 1380 nm. Therefore, it should be much better at detecting objects above it. Whether this will be felt in practice is not clear.
